A daylong English Language Fair was held in five schools of Naogaon, Netrakona and Satkhira districts yesterday. The Daily Star and Robi jointly organised the fair to improve the proficiency of secondary school students in English. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports: Over 100 enthusiastic students of Naogaon Government Girls' High School, Chak Enayet High School and Jonokalyan Model High School took part in the fair organised in the girls' school's auditorium in Naogaon town. The girls' school Headmaster Rezaul Alam inaugurated the fair at around 11:00am. The fair began with the screening of a movie, The Lion King. Afterwards, quizzes and competitions on vocabulary, moral lessons, extempore speech and role playing and writing picture descriptions were held based on the movie. The schools' English teachers Laizu Banu and KM Mobarok Hossain adjudged the winners in the quizzes and competitions. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners. Our Netrakona correspondent reports: Some 500 students of Baniajan CT Pilot High School in Atpara upazila of Netrakona district took part in the fair amid much fun and festivity. The school's Assistant Headmistress Nilufa Nasrin inaugurated the programme at the school auditorium at around 11:15am. The movie was also screened here, based on which the students took part in the quizzes and competitions. After distributing prizes among the winners of the competitions, Nilufa expressed hope that The Daily Star and Robi would continue to organise such programmes to encourage students in enriching their English language skills. Our Satkhira correspondent reports: Over 180 students of Iswaripur A Sobhan High School in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district took part in the fair. The school Headmaster Md Shaheen Uddin inaugurated the fair at around 10:00am. The movie was screened here, based on which the students took part in the quizzes and competitions. The headmaster, Assistant Headmaster Ranajit Kumar Mondal and English teachers Rabindra Nath Talukdar and Nazrul Islam distributed the prizes among the competition winners. Shaheen said, “It is a matter of pride and pleasure for us that The Daily Star organised this English language learning programme in this school. Such programmes will inspire young students to enhance their English language skills.” Under English in Schools programme, the fair in also being coordinated by the education ministry while Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner.
