With formation of a new committee by the rival faction, internal feud in Pabna BNP has further deepened. The 151-member committee was declared at a rally held on Pabna Town Hall premises yesterday afternoon. Former district unit president Sirajul Islam Sardar and Pabna municipality Mayor Kamrul Hassan Mintu have been made president and general secretary of the committee. After the rally, rival BNP men took out a procession in the town to protest “forced disappearance” of party's central Organising Secretary Ilias Ali. The processionists led by Sirajul Islam Sardar, Kamrul Hassan Mintu, Ishwardi municipality Mayor Mokhlesur Rahman Bablu and district BNP leader Saiful Islam Badsha paraded the different streets of the town. On the other hand, the district unit brought out a procession as part of the central programme to put pressure on the government to trace Ilias Ali and his driver within the deadline given by Chairperson Khaleda Zia at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday. President of the unit KS Mahamud and General Secretary Habibur Rahman Tota led the procession. Addressing the rally on the town hall premises, leaders of the rival faction said they formed the new committee to save the district BNP from opportunists and inefficient people. They urged the dedicated BNP men to stay united and observe all party programmes under the leadership of the new committee. Contacted, District BNP General Secretary Habibur Rahman Tota said the supporters of Sirajul Islam and Kamrul Hassan Mintu have tarnished the party image by forming such a committee. “They have no right to observe any party programme, ignoring the district unit,” Tota said, adding that the district unit will take disciplinary action against those who have formed a parallel committee.
