At least 35 houses and five shops were gutted in Natore and Satkhira districts yesterday and the day before. The houses were gutted in four separate fire incidents in Natore district yesterday noon, reports our correspondent. Ten houses were gutted at Tamaltola Adarsha Gram under Bagatipara upazila. The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a house of the area and soon spread to the adjacent houses. The victim families claimed that the extent of damage caused by the fire would be around Tk 10 lakh. In a separate fire incident in the same upazila, 11 houses were gutted at Pravatpur village. Locals said that the fire originated from the kitchen at Md. Sazdar Rahman's house. The victims claimed that the fire damaged property worth Tk 20 lakh. In Lalpur upazila, 14 houses were gutted in Udhanpur-Ramkrisnapur village. The fire originated from the kitchen at Zakat Ali's house. The affected house owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 14 lakh. In Satkhira, at least five shops were gutted at Raipur bus stand under Mathureshpur union in Kaliganj upazila Sunday night, reports our correspondent. The fire damaged clothes, rice, cycle and its parts, tea, grocery goods, lubricants and other property worth Tk 15 lakh, victims claimed. Quoting eyewitnesses police said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at M/s, Allahar Dan Bastralaya and spread to other shops.
