Woman beaten to death
A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at village Mahandi in Tala upazila on Saturday night.
Quoting local people police said, Gafur Sardar son of Mafiz Uddin Sardar married Marzina Begum, 28, daughter of Mobarak Ali Moral of village Sreedharpur in Assassuni upazila about ten years back.
Marzina's parents gave Tk 10,000 to Gafur as dowry at the time of the marriage.
Later, Gafur demanded more dowry from her parents who failed to meet his demand due to poverty.
Over the issue, the accused used to torture his wife off and on. Unable to bear the torture, Marzina at a stage filed a case with a court accusing her husband.
Later, Gafur took his wife to his house after giving a bond before the court that he would not torture her in future.
But a few days later he again started to torture her demanding dowry.
On Saturday, Gafur beat Marzina mercilessly, leaving the victim Marzina Begum dead on the spot at about 10 at night.
