Rivals destroy boro by using toxic chemical
A gang of criminals destroyed boro plants on over three bighas of land by allegedly spraying harmful liquid chemical at Madha Hatbamunia village in Sadullapur upazila early Tuesday.
Locals said as the gang sprayed the acid like chemical on the cropland of Ranga Mia at dead of night, the green paddy plants were found burnt out in the morning.
Later, the angry villagers protested the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
Mahbub Mia, member of Kamarpara union parishd, said there had been a longstanding enmity between Ranga and a neighbour over a piece of disputed land. “The incident might be a sequel to the dispute”, he added.
Contacted, Ranga, who is now staying in Dhaka, said he would file a case against his rival after returning home.
Meanwhile, a team of agriculture department visited the spot, collected samples of the destroyed plants and sent those to regional paddy research centre in Rangpur for laboratory test, said upazila agriculture officer Obaidur Rahman Mandol.
