Polytechnic teachers stage sit-in
Teachers of Dinajpur Polytechnic Institute yesterday staged an hour-long sit-in to press home their eight-point demand.
The programme under the banner of Bangladesh Polytechnic Teachers' Association and Bangladesh Polytechnic Teachers' Parishad began at around 10:00am in front of the principal's office.
The demands include promotion as per early assurance of prime minister, filling the vacant posts, 100 per cent honorarium for second shift teachers and job regularisation.
The academic activities at 29 polytechnic institutes under different projects in the country are being run by 45 to 50 per cent fresh teachers while 70 to 80 per cent posts of 20 full fledged institutes across the country are still vacant, hampering the studies of the students, said speakers at the programme.
Besides, eight posts of principal and 17 of vice principal have been lying vacant for long, they added.
Md Mujibur Rahman, district unit president of the association and its general secretary Md Aminul Islam, also spoke.
