BSF returns body of cattle trader

The body of a Bangladeshi cattle trader, who was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Chouka border in Shibganj upazila in Chapaianwabganj early Saturday, was returned to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday morning. A deputy commander level flag meeting preceded the handover that took place at Shingnagar border in Shibgonj upazila. The BGB later handed the body over to Shibgonj police and police sent it to Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Earlier, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot the cattle trader dead at Chowka frontier village of the upazila early Saturday. The killing took place just nine days after the killing of another young cattle trader by BSF in the same union of Shibganj upazila. The cattle trader killed on Saturday was identified as Faruk Hossain, 25, son of Jasim Uddin of Parchuka village under Monakasha union of Shibganj upazila in the district. Lt Colonel Jahangir Hossain, Commanding Officer of 39 BGB Battalion said that forces at Sabdelpur camp of 125 Maldah BSF battalion in Paschimbanga opened fire on Faruk around 5:30am when he went to Chowka frontier with a group of traders to receive a few cattle from Indian traders. Faruk died on the spot, some 500 yards inside of the Indian territory from zero line while his fellow traders managed to escape unhurt. BSF later took away the body to their camp. Family sources said, Faruk along with others went out to collect cattle from Indian traders on Friday. BGB strongly protested the killing they sent a protest note to their counterpart asking them to return the body immediately. On April 4, the BSF members shot dead another cattle trader Ruhul Amin, 25, son of Serajul Islam of Tarapur village under Monakasha union in Shibganj upazila in the district, at Shingnagar frontier.
