Explain about early DCC poll campaign
EC asks Kazi Firoj Rashid
The Election Commission yesterday asked a prospective mayoral candidate Kazi Firoz Rashid to explain why he should not be accused of breaching electoral rules.
The returning officer of the Dhaka City Corporation (South) polls, Khandaker Mizanur Rahman, served the notice on the Jatiya Party leader.
The notice said Firoz Rashid has started his electoral campaign in advance by addressing three separate rallies in the city on Thursday and asked him to give his reply within 24 hours.
According to the electoral rules, a candidate is allowed to start campaign 21 days before the election date which means the candidates can start their campaigns from May 3 for the polls to the bifurcated DCC due on May 24.
Talking to The Daily Star, Firoz Rashid termed the EC initiative as positive.
Mentioning that there were still many posters, banners and billboards of poll aspirants belonging to the ruling Awami League, he said the EC are yet to take action against them.
