8 awarded for contribution to cut smoking
Eight personalities were awarded for being lifetime non-smokers and for contributing to reduce smoking in the country.
The award, first of its kind in the country, was a joint initiative of the Dhaka district administration and Save the Rural Development Association (Sarda), a social organisation, says a press release.
The award was handed over through a ceremony at Dhaka district conference room in the capital yesterday.
The awardees were Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, vice-chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU), M Nurun Nabi, project coordinator of Dhaka Urban Comprehensive Eye Care Project, Dr Mohiuddin, advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, Md Aminul Haq Molli, sports editor of Dainik Korotoa, Md Mohiuddin, managing director of Saarc International College, Sylhet, Md Nazmul Hasan, senior assistant secretary of National Defence College, Dhaka, Advocate Jashimuddin Ahmed and social worker Engr Shamiul Hossain.
Md Mohibul Hoq, deputy commissioner of Dhaka, chaired the programme while Arefin Siddique, Nurun Nabi and Murad Bhuiyan, executive director of Sarda, attended the event among others.
