Child dies for 'wrong treatment'

A three-and-half-year old child died due to alleged wrong treatment at Arabinda Shishu Hospital at Ghasipara in the town on Thursday night. The deceased is Golapi Begum, daughter of late Md Abdus Samad of Chatrapara village in the sadar upazila. The victim's family members said they had admitted Golapi to the hospital on Wednesday noon with respiratory problem and fever. The duty doctor and nurses gave her two injections on Thursday evening to ease her sufferings. Following this, Golapi was repeatedly complaining of a chest pain, they said. The hospital authorities asked the relatives to take the patient to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. But she succumbed on the way to the hospital, they further said. Aktara Begum, mother of Golapi, alleged that the doctors did not visit her ailing daughter regularly. Abul Hossain Patwari and Bimal Kumar Dey, president and general secretary of the managerial board of the hospital, declined any negligence of doctors and nurses. Angered by the death, the victim's relatives and villagers of Chatrapara ransacked the hospital.
