5 killed in road crash in 4 dists

Five people were killed and 17 others injured in road accidents in Brahmanbaria, Chittagong, Manikganj and Thakurgaon yesterday. Our Correspondent from Brahmanbaria reports: Two unidentified people died instantly and 15 others injured as a bus fell into a ditch beside ComillaSylhet highway at Uzanisher village in sadar upazila yesterday. Police said the accident occurred when the driver of the bus lost control over the steering. UNB from Manikganj reports: A BBC official was killed as a bus hit his motorcycle at Nabogram village in Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Rezaul Islam, 48, finance manager of BBC Dhaka Office. He hailed from Katia Sarkar village in Satkhira Sadar upazila. Police said a Paturia-bound coach of Ananda Paribahan from Dhaka hit his motorcycle from behind, leaving him dead on the spot at 12:30pm. Staff Correspondent from Ctg adds: A young man was killed and another injured critically as a truck hit a rickshaw van carrying them at Tannery Battal in the port city early yesterday. Md Jahangir, son of Abdul Malek of Aturar Depot under Bayezid Police Station of the city was declared dead at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Critically injured Nurun Nabi was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Our correspondent from Thakurgaon adds: An elderly man killed when a motorcycle hit him from behind at Shibdighi village in Ranishankoil municipality area at 9:30am yesterday. Abdur Rahim, 60, of Shandhoroi village under Ranishankoil upazila, died instantly when motorcyclist Md. Juwel, 26, of the same village was injured critically.
