US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton greeted the Bangalee people across the world on the occasion of “Pahela Baishakh”, the first day of Bangla New Year. On behalf of President Barack Obama and the people of the United States, Clinton in a statement issued yesterday said that she was delighted to send best wishes to the Bangalee as they celebrated the Bengali New Year. This is a time for the Bangalee to honour their rich cultural traditions, from song and dance, food and film to internationally renowned literature and poetry, said the statement. Americans have been influenced by the strong traditions of Bangla, spread through a dynamic diaspora community, that have shaped their culture for years. The Bangalees of all faiths and nationalities come together, bridging national and religious divisions in honour of a shared history and promising future.
