Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday urged the Vice Chancellor (VC), Pro-VC of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) and the Buet Teachers' Association to solve the ongoing problem together to ensure smooth academic activities of the university. His call came up following the crisis created through work abstention of the association since April 7 to press home its demands, including resignation of the VC and Pro-VC. The leaders of the association yesterday morning met the minister at his secretariat office where the minister requested them to talk to the VC and Pro-VC to reach a solution. Later in the afternoon, Nahid sat with VC and Pro-VC and asked them to sort out the problem in consultation with the association. “I told them to reach a solution as soon as possible so that their academic lives are not hampered,” Nahid told The Daily Star. Earlier on Wednesday, the Buet syndicate urged the teachers to withdraw their work abstention programme and resume academic activities.
