Programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh
Different cultural organisations have taken preparation to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, first day of Bangla New Year, tomorrow in a festive mood in the capital.
Thousands of people from all walks of life, in traditional clothes, will pour into the streets, parks and open spaces across the capital from early morning to welcome the Bangla New Year 1419.
Around 14,000 members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed on the occasion in the capital to ensure security of the festival goers.
The main programme of the day will begin with the sunrise at Ramna Batamul, where artistes of Chhayanaut, a cultural organisation, will sing the traditional song of Rabindranath Tagore--"Esho Hey Baishakh".
A Mangal Shobhajatra, a celebratory procession on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, also the main festival of different indigenous communities, will start from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University in the morning.
The festival goers will flock to Baishakhi Mela (fair), a major feature of the celebration, in different parts of Dhaka city.
They will be enjoying food like Panta Bhat (rice soaked in water) with hilsha fish and chilli.
Bangladesh Betar and television channels will air special programmes while newspapers will publish special supplements on the occasion.
Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad will organise a two-day programme, including discussion and cultural function, on its premises on Topkhana Road.
Songkranti Alliance will organise a concert today on Kalabagan playground, while Banani Society will organise programmes at Banani Park tomorrow.
Sargam Lalitakola Academy will organise a competition for children at Sector-3 in Dhanmondi tomorrow.
Different public and private universities, including Jahangirnagar University, North South University, Stamford University, Primeasia University, and Santo-Marium University of Creative Technology, will also organise different programmes.
Westin Hotel will celebrate the occasion through holding traditional bioscope show, snakes and ladders (sap ludu) and horse ride.
Dhaka Bashi (residents of Dhaka) will bring out a procession today at 11:00am from the premises of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, while Chittagong Samity will hold cultural programmes at 9:00am tomorrow on Topkhana Road.
Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (Bapa) will organise a kite flying festival and a kite exhibition on Dhaka University central playground at 10:00am today.
Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation will organise a programme at Bangladesh Shilpokala Academy tomorrow evening with the participation of leading artistes of the country, while Ananya Social Foundation will hold a discussion and a cultural programme at Jatiya Press Club at 6:00pm today.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy Employees' Association has undertaken a 10-day programme, which started yesterday on its premises.
In the meantime, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir conveyed New Year greetings to the people. Bangladesh Jatiya Party also greeted the people on the occasion.
