Lightning kills 6 in five districts
At least six people were killed and nine others injured as lightning struck them in five districts yesterday.
A woman and her son were killed and two others of the family injured by lightning at Nagarpur upazila of Tangail yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Rasheda Begum, 55, wife of Refaz Sheikh of Atial village and their son Sajib Hossain, 25, reports our correspondent.
Salahuddin Miah, officer in-charge of Nagarpur police station, said a thunderbolt struck the house of Refaz Sheikh during storm around 10:00am, leaving his wife and son dead on the spot and injuring Refaz, 62, and Sajib's wife Shefali Begum, 20.
In Madaripur, a young man was killed and his father was seriously injured as thunderbolt struck them while working at their crop field during rain in the morning.
The incident took place at Char Janaja of Shibchar upazila, reports our correspondent.
Injured Kamal Khan, 25, died on the way to local health complex. His father Zaher Khan is now being treated there.
In Thakurgaon, an elderly man was killed and two women were injured by lightning at Shiallor village in Haripur upazila in the morning, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Jamaluddin, 70, of the same village.
Chairman of Amgaon union parishad Md Ismail Hossain told this correspondent over cell phone that lightning struck them on the veranda leaving the elderly man dead on the spot.
His wife Shahera Begum, 50, and neighbour Mofera Khatun, 35, wife of Abdul Khalek were injured.
In Kishoreganj, a farmer was killed and four others were injured after being struck by a lightning at Changnoyagaon village under Karimganj upazila.
The deceased was identified as M Obaidullah, 23, son of Kado Miah of the village.
Locals said, the thunderbolt struck a group of farmers while they were working on a paddy field during rain at about 12:20pm, killing Obaidullah on the spot and injuring four others.
The injured were taken to Karimganj health complex.
According to our Gaibandha correspondent, a farmer was killed as a lightning hit him at Jamudanga village in Sadullapur upazila in the morning.
Witnesses said, Baharam Uddin Bepari, 45, of the village died on the spot. The thunderbolt struck him while he was returning home from Lalbazar market.
