RMG worker killed in road crash
Road blocked, 15 hurt in workers-cops clash
An RMG factory worker was killed as an LP gas cylinder-laden pick up van him on Maijdee-Chaumuhani road before the Globe Biscuit, Soft Drinks and Beverage Factory in Begumganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased is Mizanur Rahman, 26, a worker of the factory, son of Abul Khair of village Eklashpur of the upazila.
Begumganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amirul Alam and eyewitnesses said the pick-up van hit Mizan while he was crossing the road to go to the factory at around 1:00pm, killing him instantly.
The driver managed to flee with his vehicle.
Following the accident, his co-workers and locals blocked the road for an hour.
Police tried to control the situation. But they attacked the police. The law enforcers then fired 15 rounds rubber bullets that triggered a clash with the protestors. At least 15 persons were injured in the clash.
Jahid 24, Babul, 24, Imtiaj 22, Rabi, 33, Kader 30, Noman 28, Feroj, 35, Nayan, 25, and Iqbal, 27, are of the injured.
