2 youths remanded in Jamalpur
District Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday granted five days' remand to the two youths who were arrested on charge of rape and murder of 11-year-old schoolgirl Jannatul Ferdous in Dhaka.
Jamalpur railway police produced the accused -- Arif Billah, 24, a student of a private university in Dhaka, and Kazi Mohiuddin, 28, son Kazi Mohammad Ali, a businessman at Ashkona in Dakkhin Khan of Dhaka, seeking ten days' remand for them.
After hearing the lawyers of both the complainant and defendants, the judicial magistrate granted five days remand for the two accused.
Jannatul ferdous, 11, a class four student of Al-Sabah Academy at Ashkona, lived with her parents in the rented flat on the ground floor of the house owned by Kazi Mohammad Ali.
"Arif Billah, a tenant of a third floor room of Kazi Mohammad Ali's house, enticed the girl to go to his room by offering her chocolate. When she went to Arif's room, he and the house owner's son Mohiuddin killed her after rape by turn," Jamalpur railway police station officer in charge Khandakar Shaker Ahmed said referring to the case statement.
Killers packed the body in a carton and left it in a compartment of Brahmaputra Express intercity train at Airport Railway Station in Dhaka on April 4.
At around 2:00am on April 5, Jannatul's body in the cartoon was recovered from the train at Dewanganj Bazar station.
The body was first buried at Jamalpur municipality graveyard. Following a court order, the relatives of the deceased exhumed the body and took it to their Utholy village home in Alfadanga upazila under Faridpur district for burial.
