Selim Shahin, 34, the assistant cooperatives affairs secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan (North) unit of the pro-BNP organisation, died at National Institute of Chest Diseases and Hospital (NICDH) at Mohakhali at about 1:00pm.
Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said the attack on Shahin was the result of internal feud in the organisation.
The victim's younger brother, Abdul Alim, said a gang of miscreants stabbed Shahin indiscriminately on April 1 evening in Nawab Habibullah Road area.
He was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to the NICDH.
While undergoing treatment, Shahin named some of the attackers as Jony, Khokon, Morshed, Al-Amin, claimed Alim.
The victim, a flower trader and supplier and a contractor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), was also the convener of ward no. 57 unit of Jubo Dal. He had a construction firm, SS Enterprise.
Alim said there was a feud with some criminals who had been demanding extortion from Selim at the flower market in Shahbagh for the last few months, leading him to shift his house from the area.
