Gas supply snapped for 5 hours without any prior notice

Our Correspondent, Mymensingh
Around 15,000 gas users in Mymensingh town yesterday faced serious trouble as the authorities concern suspended its (gas) supply for five hours without prior announcement. Townspeople alleged that Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd switched off gas supply at 9:00am without prior announcement. Teachers, school-going children, HSC examinees, bankers and staff of the public and private organisations were the most sufferers as they had to come out of their respective houses without having breakfast. Many people crowded roadside hotels and tea-stalls in the town to have the first meal of the day. Suspension of gas supply also hampered production in Mashkanda BSCIC industrial area. Contacted, Abdul Awal Talukder, deputy general manager of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd in Mymensingh, said they had to switch off gas supply temporarily for “urgent repair” of a fault under Balashpur Railway Bridge pipeline in the town. Operational department of the company's Dhaka office repaired the fault and we just helped them, Talukder said, adding that the gas supply is now normal. We had earlier made an announcement through mikes to aware people about suspension of gas supply in the town, the official further said. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lokman Hossain Miah told this correspondent that they were not informed earlier about the matter. Such initiative could be taken for any urgent work, but the authorities concern should inform the local administration earlier so that it can aware people about such temporary inconvenience, the DC said.
