No scope of politics over water
Says LGRD minister
Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday called on all, including the opposition party, to work together for solving the country's water crisis.
“If we do not work together to remove the water crisis, it's us who will suffer mostly,” he said, adding that, “Water is needed for both Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party; without water we can not live.”
“There is no scope of politics regarding the issue,” he also said while addressing as the chief guest the inaugural ceremony of “Wasa Week” at Engineers' Institute in Chittagong
The five-day long programme of Wasa that took off in the port city yesterday will include discussions, seminars and area-wise water supply monitoring.
“We have lack of awareness on the issue of water crisis,” the LGRD minister said, calling for raising awareness on the issue.
The ground water level is decreasing day by day and there is threat of facing dangerous land disaster in future, he said.
The government is trying to find out new sources of water for increasing its supply in the cities, he said.
The LGRD minister also urged the Wasa employees to work sincerely to implement its ongoing water projects.
