Normalcy returning to CU
A significant number of students turned out to the campus yesterday as Islami Chhatra Shibir has temporarily postponed its indefinite strike at Chittagong University.
Classes and pre-scheduled examinations were held, Proctor Siraj Ud-Doullah said, expressing his hope that normalcy would soon be back to the campus.
Chittagong University was shut down and all halls vacated after Chhatra Shibir men clashed with Bangladesh Chhatra League men on February 8, leaving two students killed.
As the university resumed on March 18 upon a 38-day closure, Shibir men enforced the strike on the very day with a four-point demand.
The demands include formation of a probe committee on the February 8 incident, withdrawal of all "false" cases against Shibir men, release of the arrested Shibir men, and punishment to the killers of the two students.
Meanwhile, Shah Amanat Hall, which reopened on March 16 but was closed the same day due to tension between Shibir and BCL men, was opened to students yesterday.
