Mugger lynched in Keraniganj
An angry mob beat an alleged mugger to death and left four others injured when they were trying to flee after snatching Tk 20 lakh from a man and his mother yesterday in Keraniganj on the outskirts of the city.
The identity of the mugger, aged about 28, could not be known immediately.
The injured muggers Bappi, 27, Shariful, 28, and Sohel, 25, were admitted to Mitford Hospital while another mugger Yusuf, 28, was detained at Keraniganj Model Police Station.
Police and locals said the gang of the muggers, riding a car, intercepted Sohag, 30, and his mother Hasida Begum at Rohitpur on Jinjira-Nababganj road at around 12:30pm.
Sohag along with his mother was returning home in Belna village by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after withdrawing Tk 20 lakh from a bank at Jinjira.
Police said they had recovered Tk 1.46 lakh from the possession of the muggers while the rest of the amount was missing.
