An unidentified man shot dead a well known businessman in Khulna city Monday night.
The victim, Zakir Hossain Sarder, 48, of Sharafpur union, Dumuria upazila, used to cultivate shrimps.
Police and witnesses said two youths riding a motorcycle attacked him at Babu Road around 8:30pm. One of them fired one shot at his chest at point blank range. He died on the spot.
The killer along with his accomplice made escape firing two empty shots, the witnesses said.
Zakir's wife Dilruba Begum claimed that the murder was pre-planned and the result of a long standing dispute over possession of paternal property with his elder brother, Iqbal Hossain Sarder.
Police arrested Siddiqur Rahman, 35, a cousin of the victim, in Sharafpur yesterday for his suspected involvement in the killing.
Zakir Hossain survived a bomb attack in November last year. That time he had lodged a case with Dumria Police Station, accusing his elder brother Iqbal Sarder and a nephew of the attack.
