Bangladeshi worker dies in Singapore
A Bangladeshi worker was killed as a concrete slab fell on him at a construction site of Mass Rapid Transit in Singapore on Saturday, reported a Singaporean newspaper.
The victim, Masud Al Mamun, 35, was operating an excavator deep in the ground of the site near Botanic Gardens. Detailed home address of the deceased could not be known yet.
Singapore Civil Defence Force rescuers needed about five hours to reach the worker lying motionless on the ground. A 10-tonne jack and two airbags were used to stabilise the concrete slab before they could remove Masud. He was declared dead at about 9:00am.
The Straits Times reported on Sunday that Masud with another worker was at the lowest level of the site, three to four-storey below the ground, when the accident happened.
They were removing the concrete slab, which later fell on Mamun. The other worker managed to move away in time, and was not injured.
The Ministry of Manpower is investigating the incident and ordered to stop the site work.
