JU teachers observe work abstention

A group of agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday observed a daylong work abstention programme, including boycotting classes, protesting the university administration's irregularities in appointing teachers in different departments. They will observe two hours work abstention programme from today till Thursday for the same reason. The teachers under the banner of 'Shikkhak Samaj' announced a five-day protest programmes on Saturday as the university's teachers' recruitment board led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir allegedly has taken interviews of some candidates for recruitment in Mathematics department despite protest of the teachers. Meanwhile, the agitating teachers have demanded the resignation of the vice chancellor as he declined to meet their demands, including stopping teachers' recruitment based on partisan as well as elections for the post of vice-chancellor, senate, syndicate and dean's body.
