Power Plant Roof Collapse
Low quality work blamed
The low quality of construction work was the main reason behind Saturday's roof collapse of the 50MW power plant at Katakhali in the city that left 13 workers injured.
Top officials of Power Development Board (PDB) said this to The Daily Star yesterday.
However, the PDB yesterday formed a three-member committee, headed by Minhaj Uddin Ahmed, director (civil division) to investigate the matter and report within three days.
The committee will start investigation today, said Saiful Islam, director of PDB public relations department.
Enamul Haque, executive engineer of Rajshahi PDB, said the Chinese company Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited International which has been awarded the construction work in a letter yesterday was asked to explain the accident and as well as to take care of the injured workers.
Eight of the injured construction workers were undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital till filing of this report in the evening.
