8 killed in Mymensingh road accidents

Eight people were killed and 47 others injured in two road accidents in Mymensingh yesterday. The driver of a Mymensingh-bound truck from Kishoreganj lost control over the steering and the bus fell into a roadside ditch, leaving six passengers of it dead on the spot and seven others injured, said police. One of the deceased was identified as Manu Miah, 32, of Kulkandi village in Dewanganj of Jamalpur district. The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). All the victims were travelling by the truck as passengers. In another accident, two workers of a garment factory were killed and 40 others injured on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Hazir Bazar area of Bhaluka upazila in the morning. The deceased were identified as Tariqu Islam, 18, son of Md Wahiduzzaman of Konapara village and Gaziur Rashid, 25, son of Ashraf Ali of Namapara village in Trishal upazila. Of the injured, 31persons, including eight female workers, were admitted to MMCH. A staff bus of Square Fashion Ltd, carrying some 50 workers and employees, collided head-on with a truck as the driver of the bus lost control over the steering, leaving the two dead instantly and 40 others injured, police said. Our Jhenidah Correspondent adds: A student of Jessore polytechnic institute was killed in a road crash in Jhenidah on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Sahriar Sujan, 19, son of Abu Hanif of Arappur village in Sadar upazila. A speeding truck ran over Sujan, while he fell on the ground from his motorcycle at Arappur bus stand, leaving him dead on the spot.
