Concern over mass arrests

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), a human rights organisation, yesterday expressed grave concern over the mass arrests and countrywide search by the law-enforcers ahead of the opposition's scheduled grand rally in the capital today. Rapid Action Battalion and police personnel arrested more than 3,000 people on Saturday in the name of averting disorder and subversive activities in the country centering on the BNP rally, said ASK, in a press release, referring to the media reports. Many people were punished by mobile courts, intensifying the sufferings of the common people, the release added.
