2 of 'thievery gang' held
Police arrested two people from Chittagong Old Railway Station road area in connection with a theft case and seized 1.5 tolas of gold ornaments and a fake gold necklace from them yesterday.
The arrestees are Ameer Hossain, 35, son of Anser Ali of Ruhitpur under Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka, and Md Mohiuddin, 32, son of late Siddiqur Rahman of Katiakhali in Comilla.
Mohiuddin revealed that they sold the stolen gold ornaments to jewellery businessmen in the capital's Tanti Bazar. These businessmen also help them get bail from the court, he added.
The case was filed on February 24 over the theft of valuables worth Tk 6,59,000 from a house at Kapashgola the same day, police said.
The gang recently looted the houses of a Chittagong Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner and a former head-assistant, police added.
Arrestee Ameer admitted that they looted the house of the present Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy around a year ago.
