'ONE Save the Children in Bangladesh' formed
Four organisations of Save the Children working in Bangladesh formally merged into “ONE Save the Children in Bangladesh” yesterday to work in a more organised way for the betterment of Bangladeshi children.
The merger of the Save the Children Australia, Save the Children Sweden-Denmark, Save the Children UK and Save the Children USA, took place at a ceremony in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
Gowher Rizvi, the prime minister's international affairs adviser, said, “Launching of ONE Save the Children in Bangladesh will help avoid overlapping and duplication of programmes taken by different Save the Children organisations in our country.”
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said the amalgamation of the four non-government organisations into a single entity will help them work in a broader perspective.
NGO Affairs Bureau Director General Nurul Kabir Talukdar, Save the Children, Asia Campaigns and Advocacy Director Michel Anglade, Prof Mehtab Khanom of Dhaka University and Save the Children Country Director Michael McGrath also spoke at the ceremony.
The four organisations, working in 119 countries, have been operational in the country since 1973.
