Four die in road crashes

Four people were killed and 57 others injured in separate road accidents in Lalmonirhat, Noakhali, Satkhira and Kurigram yesterday. Our Lalmonirhat Correspondent reports: Two persons, including a pregnant woman, were killed and at least 25 others injured in a bus-truck collision at Khedabag village of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased are Rahima Begum, 25, wife of Moshiur Rahman of Kathalbari village, and Hamidur Rahman, 42, of Trimohoni village in Kurigram Sadar upazila. The injured were admitted to Lalmonirhat and Kurigram general hospitals and Rangpur Medical College Hospital. A Bogra bound bus from Kurigram collided head-on with a truck on Rangpur- Kurigram road, leaving Rahima and Hamidur dead on the spot, police said. Our Noakhali Correspondent adds: A schoolgirl was killed in a road accident at Kallayandi Bajar of Senbag upazila yesterday. The deceased is Tahera-tur-Jannat, 10, daughter of Jahirul Islam of Mohamdpur village of the same upazila and also a student of class four at DT Government Primary School. A speeding three-wheeler hit Tahera while she was crossing the road at Kallayandi Bajar, leaving her dead on the spot, said police. Our Satkhira Correspondent reports: A man was killed and two others were injured in a road accident on Satkhira-Jessore road near Kazirhat intersection in Kalaroa upazila yesterday. The victim is Sonai Sardar, 50, of Putuni village in Kalaroa upazila. A truck crushed Sonai while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot, said police. Our Kurigram Correspondent adds: At least 30 people were injured in a road accident on Kurigram-Rangpur high way in Selimnagor area of Rajerhat upazila in the district yesterday. A Rajshahi-bound BRTC bus from Kurigram collided head-on with a Kurigram-bound bus from Dhaka in the area, leaving at least 30 passengers of the buses injured, said police. Of the injured, Khadija Begum, 40, and Rahima Begum, 35, were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital from Kurigram Sadar Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
