Protesting RMG workers block Ctg road
Vehicular movement on Majhirghat road in Chittagong city remained suspended for around one hour yesterday after some 50 contractual workers of a garment factory put up a barricade when they found their factory closed.
Police, quoting the workers, said the owner closed the factory, Everest Sweater Limited, in Majhirghat area as some contractual workers started protesting on Sunday demanding to be made permanent.
Yesterday, the workers started protesting before the factory gate around 8:00am and afterwards put up the barricade. Police arrived and brought the situation under control, said police.
The factory owner, AKM Amin, said they were forced to shut the factory down for three days to ensure security of its staff and officials as some unruly workers beat the factory-in-charge on February 28.
He blamed some local miscreants for instigating the workers.
