RMG workers go on rampage after co-worker's death
Workers of a garments factory blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for half-an-hour following the death of a co-worker in Signboard area in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The dead was identified as Liton Mia, 28, a worker of Angora Fashion Ltd and son of Afsar Uddin of Betagar village in Mymensingh.
Sub-Inspector Haider Ali of Gazipur Industrial Zone police said Liton came in contact with a live electric wire while he was working at the readymade garments (RMG) factory at 9:30am.
He died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 10:00am.
Several hundred RMG workers took to the street and went on the rampage as his death news reached at the factory. They damaged vehicles blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway for 30 minutes from 10:00am. They also put up barricade on the road, creating severe traffic congestion.
