BDR Mutiny
Tributes paid to slain army officers
The Bangladeshi community in Toronto gathered at the Bangladesh Center on Sunday to commemorate the third anniversary of the BDR carnage in memory of the military officers murdered on February 25-26, 2009 in a mutiny.
They mourned and spoke about their caring brothers, dependable friends, reliable colleagues, visionary commanders and patriotic heroes who were proud of serving their country, said a press release yesterday.
Fifty-seven army personnel, including a BDR member, embraced martyrdom during the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana. The incident also claimed over 17 lives of the civilian population.
The Onno Theatre, Desh Itihas and Colonel Mojib Trust jointly organised the special programme titled “Buk Tar Bangladesher Hridoy”.
Eminent cultural activist Akhter Hossain said, “Our brothers, martyred military officers' strength and perseverance are an inspiration to everyone who knew them. We need to find out the root cause of the heinous act and we don't want to see the recurrence of such incident in Bangladesh."
