Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Manjur Alam urged the British Council authorities to decrease the IELTS examination fee in Bangladesh. He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the new office of British Council, Chittagong, who organised the programme at a restaurant in Chittagong on Monday. The CCC mayor said British Council is working to build a bridge between the schools of Bangladesh and the UK through its projects, Connecting Classroom and Global School Partnership. Thus, it is playing a vital role to upgrade the curriculum of the schools in Bangladesh to international standards, he said. It is also helping our students to opt for studying abroad by facilitating them with training and examination on courses like IELTS, he added. Manjur urged the British Council authorities to take up extensive programmes for training the teachers of English medium schools in the port city. Mark Robson, director, English and Examinations, British Council, Bangladesh, and Murray Keeler, country examinations manager of British Council, Bangladesh, were also present at the ceremony. The office of British Council, Chittagong was shifted from Sholashahar No:2 Gate area to the 8th floor of Rakib Tower at Agrabad in the city.
