BNP leader killed over land dispute

A union level BNP leader was stabbed to death and his cousin injured as a group of rival villagers attacked them over land disputes in Banshkhali upazila Sunday evening. The deceased, Abdul Malek, 42, of Doharipara village of Sadhanpur union was claimed to be the organising secretary of the union unit BNP. Family sources said there was a long-term feud over some agricultural land between Malek's cousins and their neighbour, Nurul Hoque. During an altercation around 7:30pm Sunday, Nurul and his two brothers Shahidul Hoque and Azizul Hoque started stabbing Malek and Faruk, leaving them seriously injured. The two were rushed to Chittagong medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared Malek dead around 11:30pm. Faruk suffered injuries in the belly, shoulder, and fingers. Shahjhan Khan, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banshkhali Police Station, said none could be arrested as Nurul and his brothers were absconding.
