Two Gaibandha Jubo League men held
Police yesterday arrested two Jubo league activists on charges of attacking Rab personnel, snatching a pistol and vandalising their vehicle in Gobindaganj upazila on Thursday night.
The arrestees are Pirzada Abu Sufian, publication secretary of Gobindagang upazila Jubo League, and Belal Hossain, an activist of the unit.
During a joint drive in the area, Police and Rab personnel yesterday found the pistol under a tree beside the road.
The incident occurred at around 9:00pm on Friday when three members of the elite force from their Rangpur camp were going to Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur in a private car on an operation.
As they reached at Kaiyaganj Gobindagnaj-Ghoraghat Road, three activists of Jubo league Gobindaganj upazila unit riding motorcycle rammed the car and broke its rearview mirror.
As an altercation ensued with the Rab personnel, Jubo League leader Hasanul Islam informed other activists of the matter over cellphone.
Being informed, Jubo League activists equipped with sticks and knives weapons swooped on the Rab men, leaving them injured. They also vandalised the car and snatched one Chinese pistol from the Rab men.
At one stage, Rab personnel fired four blank shots to disperse the attackers who managed to flee the scene.
Immediately after the incident Rab filed a case with Gobindaganj police station accusing 12 people.
