Criminals 'torched' a betel leaf garden at Madhabpur village under Sadar upazila yesterday moon. The fire damaged betel leaves and other related things worth Tk 10 lakh, claimed garden owner Gautom Adhikary. According to Gautom, around 12.30pm a few jealous neighbours set his three-bigha garden on fire. He, however, declined to disclose the names of the suspects for fear of reprisals. Gautam said he took loan from two NGOs for betel leaf farming. "How will I repay the loan? How will I survive now?", he posed. Fire fighting unit station officer Lutfor Rahman of Jhenidah said, they are yet to detect the exact reason behind the fire.
