Toxic liquor kills 1 in C'nawabganj

One person died and two fell sick after taking toxic liquor at Komail village in Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon district yesterday. The dead was identified as Nezamuddin Mondol, 45, son of Salim Uddin Mondol of the village. Mahmudul Alam, officer in-charge (OC) of Mohadevpur police station said, Nezamuddin drank toxic liquor along with his friends in Komail area at noo and fell sick after an hour. Locals took them to Mohadevpur health complex where Nezamuddin died at around 1:15pm. Two others, Helal Uddin, 32, and Biswajit, 42, were admitted to the health complex in a critical condition, he added. In Tangail, seven of a family in Sadar upazila were hospitalised due to food poisoning yesterday, reports our correspondent. Hospital sources said, Hazi Motiar Rahman, 65, of Alokdia village and six members of his family fell sick minutes after taking dinner the previous night. Hazi Motiar, his wife Jarina Begum, 55, their son Mahbubur Rahman, 25, daughter Julekha Begum, 30, son-in-laws Bachhir Ahmed, 40, and granddaughters Roza Islam, 7, and Sadia Islam, 9, were rushed to the Tangail General Hospital. Residential Medical Officer at the hospital Dr Rafiqul Islam said Hazi Motiar was referred to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated. The six others admitted to the hospital are now out of danger, he said.
