Two prisoners die in Natore, Thakurgaon
Two prisoners died in Thakurgaon and Natore districts on Sunday and the day before.
Prisoner Shafiqul Islam, 38, son of Abdus Sobhan of Shenua village under Pirgonj upazila in Thakurgaon died in Sadar Hospital on Sunday, reports our correspondent.
Jailor of Thakurgaon district jail Kishore Kumar Nag said Shafiqul was admitted to the hospital at 4:00am Sunday as he felt chest pain. He died during treatment at the hospital at 5:10am.
He was accused in several criminal cases filed with Pirgonj and Thakurgaon police stations.
Police arrested him on January 5 from Pirgonj and sent him to jail.
On completion of autopsy and other official formalities, his body was handed over to his family members, the jailor said.
In Natore, prisoner Ibrahim Hossain, 35, son of Abdur Rahman of village Matiapara of Sadar upazila died on Saturday.
He was imprisoned in Natore district jail in a drug related case, jail sources, said.
Abdur Rahman, father of the victim, alleged that his son might have died of torture in the jail as he saw some blood in head and nose. He demanded a probe into the matter.
Refuting the allegation, Prosanta Kumar Bhowmik, Jail Superintendent of Natore, said Ibrahim felt severe chest pain early Saturday. He was taken to Natore Sadar Hospital where his situation deteriorated. He was shifted to Rajshahi Medical Collage and Hospital at night. But the on-duty doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
After post-mortem, his body was handed over to his family members on Saturday night, he said.
