Students of Kobi Sufia Kalaml Anondalok School, which was torched by criminals recently, are still attending classes on the school floor at Narshratpur village in Sadar upazila. The law enforcers are yet to identify the criminals although a case has been filed with Gaibandha Sadar police station in this connection. Abdullah Mia, president of the school managing committee, said they resumed classes at a makeshift house in the village and sought cooperation from the authorities to reconstruct the school without much delay so that the students can continue their education, he added. Sayed Zaman Sarker, a guardian, said that an inauguration ceremony of secondary class was held at the school on February 9 where Sultana Kamal, former adviser to the last caretaker government, also daughter of poet Sufia Kamal, was present as chief guest. The following day, a gang of local hoodlums set the school alight, damaging three classrooms and the office of the institution, he added. The loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 15 lakh, said the school sources. Hundreds of students of the school on February 15 brought out a procession and formed a human chain protesting the incident. The school was set up at the village in 2007 to educate the underprivileged children. Thirty-three students appeared in this year's primary terminal examinations and of them, five secured GPA 5, said Abdur Rouf, headmaster (in-charge) of the school.
