BCL men at MMC boycott classes

Hold procession, rally to realise demand for renaming auditorium
Our Correspondent, Mymensingh
Chhatra League (BCL) activists at Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) yesterday boycotted classes, demanding renaming of the college auditorium. On Sunday, they ransacked the administrative building of the college. They also locked the gate of the administrative building and threw brickbats at the windows of the building to realise the demand. The MMC auditorium was named after former president Ziaur Rahman in 2001, during last BNP rule. The BCL activists were demanding renaming of the auditorium after Raisul Hasan Noman, a BCL leader and MMC student who was killed during anti-Ershad movement in 1989. The BCL unit of the college also held a rally on the campus yesterday. Mehdi Hasan Royal and Raisul Alam Shuva, president and general secretary of the unit, among others, addressed the rally. To realise the demand, the BCL activists later brought out a protest procession on the campus and formed a human chain in front of the college. They chanted slogans against the administration for not remaining the auditorium and urged the authorities concerned to fulfill their demand immediately. A source at MMC said that the BCL leaders were forcing the general student to keep way from the classes. Mehdi Hasan, however, claimed that the general students were participating in the movement spontaneously.
