Fire incidents in Pabna and Munshiganj yesterday gutted four cotton godowns and at least 12 shops. A devastating fire gutted four cotton godowns of a mill at Dhulti village of Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district yesterday afternoon, reports our correspondent. The fire originated from an electric short circuit at about 1:40pm at a godown of Russel Cotton Mill. The blaze spread rapidly and gutted four cotton-loaded godowns of the mill. "When we were taking lunch at the factory we saw smoke billowing out from a godown. We rushed to the spot only to see that fire had already spread to all four cotton godowns," said Babita, a worker of the factory. Talking with this correspondent Md. Russel Pramanik, owner of the cotton mill, claimed that the fire caused at least Tk 50 lakh damage to the mill. In Munshiganj, at least 12 shops were gutted at Goalkhali Bazaar at Santoshpara village in Sirajdikhan upazila early yesterday. OC of Sirajdikhan PS Mahbubur Rahman said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop at about 4:45am and soon engulfed the 11 other adjacent shops. On information, firefighters from nearby Srinagar rushed to the spot and doused the flame with the help of local people after two hours of frantic efforts. The affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 50 lakh.
