Five youths of Bhola and Barguna districts, who went missing from the capital during the last four months, are still untraced. Four of them, Didar Matubbar, 28, Jewel, 22, Md Bahar, 29, and Arif Hossain, 30, all from Kachia village under Borhanuddin upazila in Bhola district, were kidnapped on the night of November 11 last year, said their family members. Added worry befell the families after police on November 28 recovered the body of Jasimuddin, who had accompanied the four men to the capital, from Ghoshbagh at Ashulia in Dhaka. Jasimuddin, 35, a nut trader in Kunjerhat under Borhanuddin upazila, was kidnapped by a gang from Malibagh in Dhaka after he had gone there on November 11, said his brother Jahangir Alam. Meanwhile, Abu Saleh, 24, of Lobongola village under Barguna Sadar upazila went missing on January 11. Didar, Jewel, Md Bahar, Jasimuddin, and Miraj, 26, went to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka to see off Didar's youngest brother Sabbir as he departed for abroad on November 11 last year. Didar's relatives Shaikh Sadi, 35, owner of a jewellery shop at Mouchak market in Dhaka, and Arif Hossain, 30, a cloth trader at Rampura in Dhaka, accompanied them at the airport. Later they returned to their living places but at night on the same day a kidnapper gang identifying themselves as men of law enforcement agencies took them onto a microbus from different places in the capital. Miraj and Shaikh Sadi managed to get freedom from kidnappers by giving assurance to pay ransom. Miraj filed a GD with Motijheel police station in this regard on November 20. Didar's mother Hasina Begum said, "The gang over cell phone are demanding Tk 4 lakh as ransom for release of my son. Asked by the gang, I went to Bhola and Borhanuddin branches of Islami Bank with the money and phoned them but they didn't receive my phone call." Shaikh Sadi said, "I have kept my phone off but the gang through Didar's mother's phone is giving threat to kill me after kidnapping if I don't pay ransom. I and my family members are passing days amid anxiety and insecurity." All family members of kidnapped youths Bahar and Jewel left the village for Dhaka after the incident as they felt insecure, locals said. When contacted, Enayet Hossain, OC of Borhanuddin police station, said, "We are monitoring the situation and ready to deliver all kinds of help to the families of the victims. Nobody of these families told me about their insecure positions." Abu Saleh's father Alauddin Mia, a marginal farmer, said his son was living at a rented house on Madrasa road in Gown Bazar of Baganbari area in Dhaka as he worked at a local garments factory. His wife and in-laws also lived at the same place. Asked by unidentified callers, Alauddin went to Barguna bus stand on January 11, Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital a day after and a Faridpur hospital on January 15 to get his son Abu Saleh but in vain. "Men of in-laws' house may have caused harm to my son. I have filed a GD with Barguna police station in this regard," Alauddin said.
