Charge-sheet after 10 years
Charge-sheet in the Swapon Joarder murder case was submitted to the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday evening, 10 years into the killing of the district Jubo League chief.
Earlier at a press briefing on Wednesday night, Netrakona CID Inspector Khandaker Fazle Rahim told the local journalists at his office that the charge-sheet will be submitted against five people.
The charge-sheeted accused are Morshad Habib Bhuiyan alias Jewel, Mazharul Islam alias Mamun, Saiful Alam alias Sohel, Masud Rana alias Liton and Delwar Jahan Mohammad Hasan Bin Shafiq alias Sohag.
The CID inspector said that on November 28 in 2001, an armed gang shot dead Swapon Joarder at Teribazar in Netrakona town when he was returning to his residence at Ukil Para from the party office.
Ranjit Joarder, elder brother of Swapon Joarder, filed a murder case with Netrakona police station, accusing five people on December 3 in 2001.
On April 23 in 2009, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of the district sent the case to CID for investigation as police and Detective Branch (DB) of police failed to detect the killers.
On investigation, CID Inspector of Netrakona Fazle Rahim submitted the charge-sheet accusing the aforesaid five.
Name of an accused, ATM Mostafa Chunnu, ex-president of Netrakona district Jubo Dal, was dropped from the charge-sheet as the allegation brought against him was not convincing, the CID officer informed adding that, Sohag was indicted after necessary investigation.
Contacted, Ranjit Mallik, complainant of the case told this correspondent that he was very happy as the CID police could finally identify the killers and submitted the charge-sheet against them after ten years.
