10 Shibir men hurt in clash with police
At least 10 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir were injured in a clash with police in Maijdee Court area in the district town yesterday afternoon.
The law enforcers also picked up seven Shibir men from the spot, said police.
The arrestees are Minhajul Ahmed Mishu, general secretary of Noakhali College unit, Hammadur Rahman, secretary of Sadar west region, Alamgir Hossain, Yasin Rashed, Aiyub Khan, Tareque Aziz Towkir and Hossain Rana.
Fakrul Islam Milon, president of Shibir town unit, said they brought out a procession from Mofiz Plaza at around 3:00pm to protest the killing of party activists Masud Bin Habib and Mujahid by BCL men on the Chittagong University campus on January 8.
When the procession reached in the area, police swooped on them, leaving over 10 injured, he added.
Mosharaf Hossain Tarafder, officer in-charge of Sudharam Model police station, said when police tried to prevent the Shibir men from vandalising roadside vehicles, they attacked the law enforcers.
Police then charged batons to disperse the crowd and arrested seven Shibir men, the OC added.
