Students protest torching of school by criminals
Hundreds of students of Kobi Sufia Kamal Anandalok School at Narshratpur in Sadar upazila yesterday brought out a procession demanding immediate arrest and punishemt of the culprits who torched the school on February 10.
They also formed a human chain at DB road. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
The students urged the authorities to reconstruct the school immediately so that they can continue their education.
Speakers at the programme said that an inauguration ceremony of secondary class was held at the school on February 9 where Sultanan Kamal, former adviser of caretaker government and also daughter of poet Sufia Kamal, was present as a chief guest.
The Following day, a gang of criminals set the school alight that damaged three classrooms and the office of the institution. The loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 15 lakh, they said.
Among others, Abu Bakker Siddique, secretary of AL district unit, Abu Zafar Sabu, secretary of Gaibandha press club and municipality panel mayor GM Chowdhury Mithu, also spoke.
