3 drown in Sylhet boat capsize
Three people drowned as a boat capsized in Chengerkhal (canal) under Sylhet Sadar upazila on Monday night.
The dead are Sagar Das, 35, Kali Das, 30, workers of Kewachhara Tea Garden, and Sharif, 4, son of Tera Mia of Baraghar village in the upazila.
Police and locals said the boat was carrying eight passengers from Mawakandi Bazar ghat to the other bank of Chengerkhal, a tributary of the Surma River.
It sank in the middle of the canal after a collision with another one at around 8:00pm, they said, adding that five passengers managed to swim ashore while the rest went missing.
On informed, law enforcers from Airport Police Station rushed to the spot. They with the help of locals recovered the bodies of the three missing passengers from Chengerkhal at around 9:00pm.
