Man jailed as cheque bounces

A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to one year's imprisonment in a case filed by Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industries for cheque dishonour. The convict, Junayed Selim, 32, son of Abu Taher of Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria and owner of M/S JM Trade International in the capital, was also fined Tk 20 lakh. M Shahidul Islam of Joint Session Judge Court-3 pronounced the verdict. The convict had been on the run. As per the prosecution, Junayed gave the chamber a cheque of Tk 20.38 lakh of Dutch-Banla Bank Ltd on July 24 which was dishonoured on August 3.
