Eviction notice triggers protest

Our Correspondent, Gaibandha
Scores of people including women and children brought out a procession yesterday protesting an evition notice to legal household owners. They later held a meeting at Gaibandha Press Club. The speakers said, in the name of so called waqf property, deputy commissioner of Gaibandha issued the eviction notice to over 60 owners of legal property. In a recent high court verdict, the DC was asked to evict illegal occupiers of some specific plots. But without considering the legal owners, the DC issued eviction notice en masse, they said. The notice has disrupted normal life of the affected people, they said. The protesters vowed to resist the eviction bid at any cost.
